I Went Outside to Cry Today

I went outside to cry today.

To let the sun dry my cheeks and to ask the wind to blow away my tears.

I went outside to cry today.

To let my body shake with grief as the ground bent beneath the weight of my sadness.

I went outside to cry today.

To walk and walk and know and know that things will never feel the same.

I went outside to cry today.

To leave the house that reverberates with the echos of the sounds that are no longer there.

I went outside to cry today.

To connect with the earth and the sky that don’t shrink away from my pain.

I went outside to cry today.

To gaze across at the mountains that offer their embrace when I’m ready to accept their healing.

I went outside to cry today.
