Home is Where You Park It
We’re 38 days into 2022, and so far I’ve called 19 different places home.
One of the biggest highlights of traveling all over the country is all of the people I get to meet. Sitting at the bar of a new brewery, hanging out at a beach park, working from a small coffee shop… Everywhere I go, there’s always someone new to meet, and when you meet new people, that means you get to answer (and ask) a lot of questions. The first and most common question I get asked is, “Where do you live?” My favorite way to answer that is with a simple, “Here. Tonight I live here.” As we like to say in the nomad world, home is where you park it, and most days bring a new place to park. A new place to explore. New people to meet.
Another nomad posted recently recapping all of the places he’s lived/camped over the past few years, and that inspired me to start keeping track of the places I call home. My new back yards I get to explore. The communities I get to be a part of, albeit briefly.
This journal, along with Google Map’s cool timeline feature that keeps track of everywhere I drive, is my official record. I’ve started listing where I park each night, anything specifically memorable about that day, and anyone I was parked there with. It’s the first journal of any kind that I’ve kept, and I already treasure it. The soft, blue leather makes me smile just to touch it, and I look forward to recording each new day. I’m excited to fill these pages with new places, new memories, new connections, and new homes, and I hope to see all of you on these pages along the way!
