Life by Design

I’m not lucky, yet I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told how lucky I am. How often I hear someone reference a friend they have that has an amazing job, a loving relationship, or an exciting hobby, and then comes a proclamation of how lucky that friend is followed by a sigh of envy. It’s not luck that brought me to the place I am in my life or to be sitting in this beautiful, remote spot in the desert today, and I’d bet that it’s not luck that got your friends where they are either. It’s putting in the hard work to know yourself and to figure out the things you really want in life, in a partner, in a profession. It’s being intentional about every decision you make to ensure that each step, each day, each choice leads you toward those things. It’s using your time to navigate your way to the things that really matter to you instead of catching that next episode of your favorite TV show or hitting the bar for a few happy hour drinks with your friends or sleeping in on Sundays just because you can. It’s all of those things and more. It’s wanting your dream more than you want the short-term thrills. It’s being willing to give up things today so you can do what you want tomorrow. Maybe not tomorrow-tomorrow and maybe not 10 tomorrows from now, but it’s some other tomorrow that you have to look toward. It’s not easy, and it sure as heck isn’t luck. It’s life by design. Your design. Your heart. Your path.
