Life By Design

Life by design. Every aspect thought out. Every decision made with intention. Every turn taken with a destination in mind. Every choice a chance. Every chance a choice. And they’ve all led me here. To saying goodbye. Sayonara. Namaste.

The house goes on the market in a few weeks. You’ll soon see me posting about getting rid of most of the things in it, and van life on the road truly begins.

>

Untethered. Free. Able to breathe. Ready to float. Eager to soar. Prepared to sink. Sure to thrive. Braced to crash. Born to rise.

>

The freedom of the road is something I’ve long sought, yearned for, planned for, and moved toward. A lot of things had to fall into place. The kaleidoscope of life had to keep turning until all of its glittery pieces lined up just right.

>

I have work that fulfills me and that can be done from anywhere in the world that I have internet service and a laptop. After three years of doing that work from home, it’s time to do it from the road. From cities near and far, from dirt roads in Utah to coffee shops in Oregon, from grassy spots by a river to parking lots where I stop when there’s no better option.

>

Connections. Building a tribe. Sharing this journey with like-minded adventurers. That’s a big part of what drives me and nurtures me. If you’re someone that I’m friends with on here but never actually met, and you’re down for letting me stop in to say hi when I’m traveling through your part of the country in the months to come, drop a note here along with your city, and I’ll be sure to look you up when the road brings me close by.

>

I few details that I know many of you will wonder about…

>

Ty will travel with me on the weekends he’s not with his dad. He’s the raddest kid I know, and he’s almost as stoked for this life as I am. If given the chance, he’ll gladly launch into explaining to you why experiences are more important than things and that it’s not a house that’s important, it’s a home. And home can be wherever you make it.

>

That home will still be in western Colorado for a long time to come. It’s the first and only place to ever offer me roots, a family, a place to rest my heart. I’ll still have a small home base here to return to a few nights a month, and I look forward to hanging out at the local coffee shops and catching up with whoever happens by. If you’re reading this and know of a very small, ultra-affordable living space available in the general area, let me know. Looking for a simple place to come back to a few nights a month, do laundry, and have a familiar bed. Studio apartment type environment sounds ideal, but open to anything that fits the bill.

Vandango will be leaving the family, and another van will take her place. One that is more suited to daily living and highway miles. If you want a super cool adventure rig in your life, now’s your chance. Vandango is going on the market soon.

So there you have it. My design. My intention. My life. As someone long before me once said, “The world is big, and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.”
